We are pleased to announce that in 2015 we signed a partnership agreement with PDG Trust in order to offer university scholarships to candidates who have previously been awarded a high school scholarship from Orchid. We believe this initiative will offer a welcome new opportunity to deserving Orchid scholars.
We have recommended one excellent candidate for the Trust in the academic year 2015-2016. In this academic year 2016-2017, there will be 2 awards for candidates Orchid through priority process, and another awards for all Orchid and public domain through open process. Potential candidates will be selected by the Orchid trustees, although the final decision of award will remain with the Trust.
The PDG Trust was established in 2005 to support long-term improvement in Vietnam in terms of poverty reduction, healthcare, education and national infrastructure. The trust’s main activity is a programme of scholarships for deserving Vietnamese students attending local universities. There have been 11 students since its inception in 2008, eight of which have graduated successfully and are now contributing, each in his or her own way, to the improvement of Vietnam.
The Trust is a lasting memorial to the life and work of Philip David Gray who, at the time of his death in 2005, was a member of the energy infrastructure team of the World Bank in Vietnam. Philip was committed to development that makes a difference to the lives of ordinary people and the Trust aims to continue its work in the same spirit.
